My name is Tim Ahern. I started my fling with photography after my father gave me my first camera when I was about 14 or 15 years old. It was a Minolta SRT-101. I had a great time with that camera. Totally manual and I loved it. That was all I knew.

After several camera and lens upgrades over the years and a couple thousand more photos, I kind of got bored with what I was doing photographically. I was very lazy about getting the film developed and had quite a few rolls sitting around waiting to be developed and printed. It was also getting rather expensive.

During the early part of the new millenium I was doing a lot of reading on the subject of digital photography and was getting pretty excited about what I was learning. In August of 2002, after begging my wife, I sold what equipment I had and went out and bought a 5 megapixel Sony DSC-F707. It pretty much does everything I want it to do, from completely manual to completely automatic. It is considered a Prosumer camera. Not point and shoot, but also not a DSLR. I am writing this in June of 2005. Since I bought that camera, less than three years ago, I have taken over 19,500 pictures with it. I have fallen completely back in to the affair with photography that I had with it 28 years ago. I carry the camera and its accessories with me everywhere I go.

I have learned more about photography, and light, and composition in the last 3 years than I had learned in the previous 28. Being able to take a picture of ANYTHING I want and as MANY as I want has been the best learning experience of my photographic life. I have complete and total control from the second I see a subject to the second it's image rolls off of my printer. I am in love again.

I don't want to hear that digital photography is not real photography. All I will tell you is to open up your mind, your imagination and your shutter. The things you can do and learn are numerous. My photography is my art. I cannot draw with pencils or paint with acrylics. All I can do is draw and paint with light. For me, going out and taking photographs calms me and opens my eyes to the many different things that I might not see otherwise. From the miniscule to the grand. There are photographic opportunities anywhere I choose to seek them. Going digital has given me the ability to experiment with many different subjects and not have to worry about how to pay for it later.

I hope you enjoy the photos I have posted, and please send me any comments you may have.

Thank you for visiting,

Tim
